This picture came up in my facebook memories today.  It was posted 13 years ago on August 31, 2007!

This was VERY shortly after I took my first pottery class and discovered that I had an artistic streak inside me that literally burst out of me full force!
The moment I touched the clay was a lightening bolt moment, and I will never forget sitting in my chair and realizing that I could literally create ANYTHING out of that piece of clay.
Since that fateful day, I have been on one constant artistic exploration and journey. It is never ending, and there will never be a final place to get to. Each and every day I am inspired by something, and at times I have so many ideas in my head that I can’t even comprehend how to get them all out.
Of course, these pieces are not the best examples of pottery, but they were the start! The start of so much creativity and a birthing of a life that I had never even dreamt of. This travelling artist life that we have now created for ourselves, was also birthed in these moments.
As usual, I encourage EVERYBODY to get creative! Take a class, try to paint, do some sewing. Whatever it is that feeds your soul, or is softly calling to you, just give it a shot. But remember, being good at anything takes practice and dedication! Like these lumpy bumpy pieces of clay, you won’t be awesome at it to start!
I truly believe that we are all meant to walk certain paths. Of course, we make decisions that get us to the next place, but I literally CAN NOT imagine how my life would be now if I hadn’t have taken that class and re-discovered my artistic self.
Thank goodness for miracles and mentors like my pottery teacher Velma Richmond who share their knowledge and teach others how to listen to the inner voices that are inside all of us.
